FULL DAY JEWISH TOUR OF SYDNEY
WITH A PRIVATE VISIT TO THE GREAT SYNAGOGUE and JEWISH MUSEUM
This tour combines the best of Sydney by road with an emphasis on the Jewish Community, living in Sydney, places of worship and history.
8:30am - Meet your Local Eyes Guide at your Sydney CBD Hotel.
We commence our journey where Sydney began, in the historic Rocks precinct where we will see examples of Australia’s oldest colonial buildings and take a look at Sydney’s waterfront theatre district of Walsh Bay.
We continue our touring through the Botanic Gardens to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair where we stop to capture some iconic Sydney photo opportunities: Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the city’s sparkling harbour; whilst enjoying a local’s overview of Sydney past and present.
We drive through Woolloomooloo via the iconic Fingerwharf Pier with its world-class restaurants and world famous pie cart, all enjoying first-class Sydney skyline views. And on through the colourful red-light district of Kings Cross – now home to some of Sydney’s best restaurants and trendy nightspots.
When New South Wales was founded as a penal colony in 1788, among the 751 First Fleet convicts were at least 16 Jews.
10.00am – We stop at the Sydney Jewish and Holocaust Museum in Darlinghurst. The new section of the museum that opened in March 2017 has numerous displays including a dedication to lives lost in the Holocaust.

11.45am – Our tour of Sydney continues via the pretty streets of Paddington, lined with historic terrace houses, private art galleries and boutique shopping – including Australian designers for those who want to explore Sydney’s behind the scenes laneways.
12.30pm– We drive through the Eastern Suburbs, home to many very prominent Sydney Jewish families, to Bondi via Watsons Bay.
1.15pm – We stop briefly in Watsons Bay where we visit The Gap overlooking the ocean and dramatic cliffs of Sydney.
1.30pm – Time for lunch in famous Bondi Beach. We accompany for lunch at a local restaurant with views to Bondi Beach, called Bondi Trattoria.
2.45pm – Following lunch we take a short walk to get an amazing view of Beach and the ocean pool of Bondi Icebergs. We then depart and head back towards the city via a Jewish food rescue and kitchen set up by a Rabi and his wife in 2001. The charitable organisation is called “Our Big Kitchen” and here we will see the meals being prepared and hopefully get time to speak to the people behind this magnificent charity.
3.20pm – We depart “Our Big Kitchen” and make our way back to the city for a visit to The Great Synagogue.
4.00pm – Our final stop is at the Great Synagogue in the centre of Sydney. The Great Synagogue (known in Hebrew as Beth Yisrael - "House of Israel") is one of Sydney's most beautiful, fascinating and historic heritage buildings. The Synagogue has stood on its present site for well over a hundred years, since 1878, but the congregation itself has a history going back at least 50 years before that date, to the decade of the 1820s.
